VIDA bioenergy

Glentham

VIDA Bioenergy Glethan have recently submitted a proposal for an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility at Glentham, Market Rasen, LN8 2EY. The project is being developed in partnership with VIDA bioenergy.

This Anaerobic Digestion Plant forms part of the wider development area being delivered by VIDA bioenergy, and will be situated adjacent to the operational anaerobic digestion facility already constructed in Glentham, and will replicate its operational processes.

The facility will turn agricultural waste and sustainable crops into biomethane, which is injected into the gas grid where it can subsequently be used for heat or power. The by-product of AD, known as digestate, is nutrient-rich and can be used as a natural fertiliser, improving soil health and reducing the need for chemical fertilisers.

The project will deliver the following benefits:

  • Approximately 19,000 homes’ domestic gas requirements will be met by this project. 31,000 tons/yr CO2 is also captured, which can be used for sequestration or in the food & drink industry, making the carbon footprint even more negative.

  • The development will reduce fossil fuel use, enhancing the UK's energy security and supporting the UK’s renewable transition. It will also produce organic digestate to replace synthetic fertilisers and improve local soil health.

  • Anaerobic digestion provides a sustainable solution for managing agricultural residues and reducing the need to spread manure on land by replacing it with digestate, a nutrient-rich, organic by-product with reduced odour, thereby improving diversion rates and protecting the environment.
